Tan eventually wanted to attend Fordham University like her business idol Donald Trump, but after getting admitted, she decided against it. “If I went to Fordham: Fordham would be my university – New York would be my campus,” she recalled. “If I enrolled into the school of ‘hard knocks’ [business in the real world]: Life would be my university, the world would be my campus.”

So fresh out of high school, Tan became an independent distributor for a beverage company, and it was around then that she began the small-scale angel investing by connecting small business owners in need of capital with the investors who could provide it.

How to Invest in the Stock Market the Lazy Way

Question: Arnel, I am an avid reader of your blog and I became interested in the Stock Market.   However, when I tried to read some materials about stocks, it is so overwhelming with figures. I became so frustrated, if this is so hard then why should I try it.
- Sandy Aquino Diaz, OFW, sent by email

Hi Sandy, thank you for following my blog and for your interest in investing. Although, you have negative impression of the materials you read online, I'm going to clarify that investing is simple and stress-free. It is very evident that what you are referring to is an online trading, where you see numbers running across with confusing figures. Lets leave it to the analyst, what I will teach you in this blog is to invest the easiest possible that even the laziest people in the world can do it.

Stock Market is so complex, yet, it is so  simple that an ordinary person can do it. When I was a newbie investor, I learned these basic steps that until now I am still applying it. This is basic but very important. It is so simple that I can do it with close eyes! I learned this through my broker and I'm always keeping list on this when buying a winning stocks. How to buy the best stocks that will build your wealth? These are the things that we need to consider...

Growing Industry

Stock is a business and before buying, think its relevance to the customer and to our country as a whole. For example, you are buying Ayala Land (ALI) which is on the property sector, the question is always how's the trend right now with their business along with the competitors. How many OFW are renting and buying condos? How about shopping centers? Is SM (SMPH) still on the trend? Is banking sector in  right now? Why one bank is now even open during weekends? Our country is a consumer-driven country, stocks that are in demand are Manila Water Co. (MWC), Meralco (MER), Globe (GLO), and many more...

As long as the market is doing well and growing, you can't help but the price of the stock will continue to go up and the business continuous to expand.

When, the Duterte administration came into play, the Mining sector and Gaming sector were affected most and that also affected their business and earnings. So it goes without saying that, you can't touch mining sector this time. If you are looking on the big picture, you can already see what is the best pick. Choosing your winning stocks can be done through common sense. Kindly read my previous blog A Former Ofw to a Multi-Millionaire.

Earnings

How to know if the stocks are earning well? Using my broker's platform, I can easily access a very important section there which is "Investment Guide" where you can see all the data needed. Having the data, it is now very easy to know what to do. By the way on the board, these are already an well-earning companies. You dont need to study up to 300 listed companies to know the top earners. You can also see the revenue and the revenue growth which are always up to date. When it says ''Buy", that means that you can buy them and when that says, ''Hold" that means, that you have to stop buying because it's already expensive and you need to wait for the price to drop. It is as easy as that and don't make it too complicated!

Management Stability

This is more on "Who's running the Business?". It is more on credibility and integrity of the person. When you hear Ayala, Gokongwie, Henry Sy; You already have an impression that they're very good at doing business and managing people. These personalities have printed image to the lives of the people because of decades of consistent service and innovation. They made the lives of people easier that is why the trust to them have been already built.

Last year, I can still remember that Cebu Pacific Airlines (CEB) paid big time of fines because of delayed flights. Did it affect the business? Yes, for short-term, but what happened now? They were able to bounced back and keep their competitive edge in the market and their stock is soaring high. Ask me Why? Who owns Cebu Pacific? Gokongwei. Who owns Robinson Malls? Gokongwei. Who owns URC, the maker of C2,Chippy,etc.? Gokongwei. So, that's why. The reason is the person!

These tycoons have hired the smartest and the best people in their management team and if there's some problem, they were able to go back to the track again. You can also read my blog Start Now Not Later.

Superior Products/Services

When I say chicken joy what comes into your mind? When I say kid's favorite mall what will you answer? When I say cheaper flight, what is that? We know without thinking twice that they are Jollibee, SM Malls, and Cebu Pacific. When buying stocks, think of it if it will still be relevant 10-20 years from now. Warren Buffet, the greatest investor once said; "Only buy something that you would be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years. Buy a company that you can trust that will stay in business up to 50 years.

Strong Balance Sheet

Companies which have been here for a while like Ayala (AC), Universal Robina Corp. (URC), and Jollibee (JFC) have a strong balance sheet. That means that these companies have enough fund to sustain for long-term. Let me give you an example, When Mang Inasal came into the food business, it was the biggest threat of Jollibee. That was their greatest headache. For the long time, they have been puzzled how this new player was trying to beat them while their customers are divided. What Jollibee could do because it couldn't beat the new player was to buy it. Jollibee bought 70% shares of Mang Inasal for 3 Billion. Wew! You can't do that without having much strong balance sheet.

I hope these tips can help you in investing winning stocks. These are the things that you need to familiarize to be successful in building your wealth. Buy it and Hold it for a time and see it yourself. You can also learn from my story on How I Made my First Million in the Stock Market. Happy Investing!

StocksPh.com: a One-Stop Trading Site

I'm a heavy user of social media and I've been reading countless blogs and websites to be updated on financial headlines and economic news everyday. If you are a newbie trader or an investor who wants to shift and try your luck in trading, this blog is for you. I've been blogging about saving and investing but seldom on trading because I'm building a foundation here. I want to create a clear picture on what trading really is. If your motive is just to make it an online casino, maybe you have to go somewhere else. 95% lose their money in the Stock Market and I experienced a big loss during my early trading days.

I assumed most of my readers are beginners in investing and trading. If you're looking for a website to learn trading the easy way StockPh.com is a good choice. Trading is always interesting for the newbies because of the opportunity to have an instant and short-time gain. It is true that you can profit 50% in just few minutes but it can also happen the other way around. You can join Facebook groups or follow a guru but the question is always the credibility and the integrity. My early mistakes before was to listen to hype and ended up cutting big losses. I had sleepless nights thinking of my heard-earned money gone with the wind.

Now if you are serious about trading, your problem now is how you can get reliable resources where you can learn trading the right way. Early days on my trading, I have to open 10 websites for my reference but now this can be much easier.

Disclaimer: This is not a paid review and this article is only my opinion and first-hand observation. I was asked to write a review about this blog and I'll give 4.5 stars overall score  ...Use this website as an educational tool together with your broker's resources.

  • Friendly interface. For newbie traders, it is important that the website is accommodating. Charts are very overwhelming and Jargons sometimes are scary but once you visit the website you can  easily access the information needed. I always like staying on a website that is reliable and I can say, a job well done to the creator of this site.

  • Daily Recommendation. For newbie traders, what excites them is the stocks recommendation and trading signal. You can follow on their daily recos but trade at your own risks. Dont just take it as it is. You have to study it well and do your due diligence. I always listen to stock picks from my brokers but I double check it through fundamental analysis and technical analysis.

  • Well Laid-out Information. You don't need to open another website, almost everything is already here.

  • Updated information from PSE. You can play around with it and absolutely for free and real time. You can also join their trading game once you'll get  the hang of it.

  •  Charts are available to check price movement. You can have it as your back up tool. There are a lot more that you can explore in their website and I recommend this in executing your trading preparations. God bless on your trading journey.

How I Made My First Million in the Stock Market

The purpose of my website is not to brag but I hope this can inspire my fellow Filipino that there's hope for ordinary people ...I am just like you! I am just an ordinary call center agent with an average salary and I'm still working to this day.

Stock Market?

When I got to know the Stock Market for the first time, I did not hesitate and I've been sold out to it ever since. I invested my savings and my aspirations in life.I fell inlove with investing and trading and until now I am still amazed how it works. A small amount, little by little will become a Million overtime. I've learned that money is a good servant; when it works; it never sleeps. You can read more about Stock Market from my previous blog, just click it here...

It all started with a Dream.

Few years ago, I was dreaming of something that I can be somebody. I saw the people in the small crowd wearing coat and ties. They seem listening to me while I'm speaking. I felt good and that night, gives birth to me  to become a Millionaire. I'm so excited with what I was dreaming and with excitement told my relatives that I have a goal in life and that is to become a Millionaire by the age of 25.

By doing so, I was so disappointed of their reactions. They told me many things, "ambisyoso' "day-dreamer, and the likes. It has become a good source  to ridicule me every time. It did not stop me there. I knew that by God's grace, it will come to pass.

I can still remember the Story of Joseph "the Dreamer". When he was dreaming that his family will bow down to him. His brothers were so angry that they planned to kill him but then he was sold to become a slave. Many years have passed, while they experienced famine and starvation they were asking for food from a distant country. To make the story short, they went to  this powerful person only to find out that it was Joseph himself! After all, he saved his entire family and the next generation. I'm very far from Joseph, but the point is, everything starts with a dream and investing in stocks is not for people who are not dreamers.

Against all Odds.

Of course, when I reached 25, it didn't happen. Then failure after failure. I told myself, maybe I could extend another 5 more years and forgive myself because of not doing well. You can read my story from my previous blog How I Escaped From Being Broke to become an Investor . I admitted due to lack of opportunities that time, creating wealth was just an elusive dream. Nevertheless, I worked hard, focused on my goal, and saved consistently. I sharpened my skills in investing and trading and keep learning from every opportunity.

Earning my first Million.

Now, I'm glad that I'm on 92% on my hit target, considering I will have 5% annual return which is the least, I'll be earning my first Million in assets through stocks before my birthday on March next year...This is memorable for me because this is a great achievement and experiencing your dream come into reality is amazing! My goal is to build my wealth in 30 years time and hitting 1% is already a victory to celebrate and it is a big deal.  My only investment is only in stocks and I'm planning to invest in real estate and bonds soon. 2017 will be a blast for me because I will engage also in Forex and global stocks to maximize my portfolio. These are new to me and I have to be a student again.

Writing my first Book.

Stock Market? I'll Give it a try!"how I made my first million in the stocks"  This will be the title of my first book that I'm writing now. This is just a preview of the content and I'm excited to finish it. I'm planning to have it available for free so that anybody can read.

My Advise to Millennials.

Save Early and Invest in your 20's. My regret is I have invested later in life. If I have known Stock Market and other investment instruments earlier, it would have been a fast-track. Think long-term and be excited to learn financial literacy and dont take it for granted.

Start Now not Later! Here are the Reasons Why...

Hello everyone! We have a very nice weather today and I am drinking my coffee while checking on my stocks. I really love stocks! I've got some gains as of this writing but it just doesn't ends here!  I'm an avid fan of long-term investing but I also trade from time to time to take advantage of the opportunity and to maximize the profit. Speaking about the profit from trading, Yes, it is astounding! I have stocks for long-term, mid-term and for short-term trading and they are executed according to my financial plan.

Why you should invest ? There's an urgency on this and I want you to start now! Here's why...

1.You are still young.

In investing, your ally is time. If you are young, you can still maximize the power of compounding and the dividend. Start buying stable and big companies like Ayala, Banco de Oro, Universal Robina Corp. to name a few... Do it regularly for long term and you will be amazed how far your savings can go. It has long been proven that the Stock Market beats all other assets in terms of returns. I am still working in a BPO company but I made sure that every time I earn something, I set aside something that goes to my investment. It is my long time-practice and I'm still doing it. I set my mind that I have to pay myself first and that I have to invest it in my future. I know it’s very challenging at first but doing it with diligence could go a long way.

If you are single, I challenge you to make this a habit and you cant be wrong with it!

2.Price are much cheaper.

Our market is trending down and the advantage of it to long term investors is that you can buy blue-chip stocks at a lower price. Bearish market is the best friend of the investors and can maximize the amount and you can buy bigger shares. As a long-time investor, I’m investing in MPI ( Metro Pacific Investment) and SMPH (SM Prime Holdings) and good thing about it is they are stable and performing companies.

Today, Metro Pacific Investment (MPI), only cost 7.10 pesos per share. If you're not familiar with it, MPI is a unit investment holding corporation that  provides water, sanitation, and sewerage services and also operates in real estate, and infrastructure projects. It also invests in some hospitals in the Philippines. In their bucket is the tollway system and expressways, MERALCO and Maynilad. It is a Giant company!

On the other hand, SM Prime Holdings (SMPH) only cost 27.20 pesos per share today and no need to ask what is this company. Just look on their gigantic buildings and ask your kid where does he want to go. SM Prime is the parent company of the SM Group's shopping malls. It is the largest shopping mall and retail operator in the Philippines. These stocks are even cheaper than your plane ticket to Bora.

By looking on its 10 years performance, I can say that the price of these stocks are going uptrend with very promising future based on our present administration. I believe that these companies will always be part of the lives of the Filipino people 50 years from now. PLDT today costs 1,752 per share but few years ago, it was only few hundreds. Can you imagine if that time, you were able to have it in your position? That's a real fortune!

Based  on two stocks above, even they are so affordable looking on the actual price per share, if we compare them to other stocks and its P/E ratio; they are already considered expensive. Cheaper stocks which are very promising are BDO, FGEN,and ALI which have very good fundamentals and are undervalued.

3.You still have your day job.

That is an big advantage If you are working and earning well. I encourage the OFW to start investing in your retirement. The more you are earning, the more are the opportunities that you can invest according to your goal. In my previous blog, I wrote an article about an OFW who worked as a baker in Saudi, invested 500,000 and hold it for 10 years. Now the value of the stocks are almost 5 Million pesos. Yes, that sounds too good to be true but that is the truth. You can check it here..

4.There are more resources now. Learning investment is easier than before.

Through the availability of online resources, learning is almost for free. Take advantage of what are available that you can find online. Since day 1 up to now, I'm still enjoying reading and learning new things about stocks. Learning is a continuous journey. If you need guidance, you can read my blog and follow the easy steps to start investing in the Stock Market.

5.More Pinoy are are already investing today..

Stock Market has now become popular and local books have been available. Before, only Millionaires and foreign investors are the only people who were taking advantage of it. Even a kid can invest through the ETF program. So no excuses, I have a thousand reasons not to go in  this field but I was able to do it.

4 Common Dangers of Newbie Investors

Welcome to the world of Stock Market! Being a newbie investor  is a challenging experience but risk is always a calculated risk if you equip yourself with knowledge on what you are getting into...When I started in stocks few years ago, I got into something which my friends dont have any idea about. Indeed, I am the first generation investor and trader. That's s scary because I didn't know where to start. So I did a thorough study and ANC-On the Money which is a tv program, has been a credible source since then. Many years have passed, my investment experience has been exciting with less mistakes and losses.

How to avoid some common dangers that a newbie would encounter. Here they are;

What should I do now? Where to go? Where to ask help from? These are most of the questions you would think. Stock Market can be very overwhelming and many times it takes trial and error to make it right but with many credible resources now, you can manage the mistakes if you will just study it.

I have many friends who started investing in stocks and ended up cashing out at a loss and decided not to do it again. They are expecting something that the stock market can give them fortune or easy money on a very short period of time; without even  knowing what they are getting into. They are expecting it is like an online casino! When their own expectation did not meet, they tend to get disappointed. Remember that each stock is a company and each stock will perform independently whether it is gaining profit or losing profit.Ask yourself first. What is my financial goal?
Again this is another misconception that many people are thinking about investment. Risk is always associated in stocks and other investments. If you are a a conservative investor and dont have much time managing your investment, you can try less risky investment instruments like Mutual Funds, Government Bonds, VUL to name a few. That really depends on your risk appetite. Always remember, the lesser the risk, the lower the return and the higher the risk, the higher is the possible return.

When you hear Stock Market, you might be thinking of those charts and numbers running in tte news on your tv screen. Investing is not much a rocket science that most people are thinking. It can be learned and many ordinary people have become successful in their investments with only basic knowledge.
Early in life I thought that investing is only for the rich, billionaires, and financial analysts but to my surprise the intial investment is even cheaper with my cellphone. It used to be expensive but when online service came into being;things have changed. It is so amazing that the government made regulations is made easier and available to ordinary Pinoy!

A Former OFW to a Multi-Millionaire

Do you want a piece of inspiration? We have heard stories both good and bad about our OFW kababayans. One thing for sure and still undebatable,  they've done something to our nation that we have to be proud of forever. Kudos to our kababayans! They deserve a very bright future after their long toil away from home!

However, handling money for most of OFWs have been a challenge. I knew many friends who went abroad and end up broke. That was the sad part, but few have stood up and made a difference. Thinking long-term pays off! Here's the story of Mr. Lambert Aquino, a former OFW. He posted it in Traders Empire, An Fb Group for investors and traders.

"Share ko lang yung story ko baka sakaling maka inspire sa iba lalo na sa mga OFW na nagpapakahirap sa ibang bansa para sa family. High Shool graduate lang ako kaya at the age of 20 nakipagsapalaran na ako sa ibang bansa para kumita ng pera at para makatulong sa magulang. I worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 30 years as a baker, mahirap talaga kumita ng pera kaya naging matipid ako at nag ipon ng nag ipon.

(I just want to share my story perhaps it will inspire others especially OFW's who are working so hard abroad for their family. I am only a high school graduate, at the age of 20 I went abroad to earn and to help my parents. I worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as a baker for 30 years. It was hard to earn so I saved regularly)

(Last 2005 I retired as an OFW and stay here for good. I was able to build a house for my parents and for my own family. Within 30 years in Saudi, I was able to save 2 Million pesos and I was thinking of something which I can earn or else I would just be spending my hard-earned money. I established a small bakery in our place (similar to Kambal Pandesal or Julie's Bakeshop).I spent 500 K, so all in all, I have a remaining 1.5 Million pesos savings. I was thinking that I have to have a retirement funds so that I have something to spend for my maintenance when I become a senior citizen.)

Haha! After ng seminar, ayun naliwanagan ako. Hindi scam/pyramiding ang Stock Market, nalaman ko rin na pwede akong mag invest dun sa mga kilalang companies.

(I did the research about investments and COL Financial popped up, I was hesitant at first because I'm aware that only rich people and professionals are investing in the Stock Market. I attended their free seminar. Before I went there, I listed down all that I want to know. During the seminar, I asked all of the possible questions. It was very obvious that I did not know anything; but after the seminar I got it already. Stock Market is not a scam or pyramiding, I also learned that I can invest in big and popular companies)

To Learn more about Stock Market, You can read it here Getting Started in the Stock Market

A month after nung seminar, nag open ako ng account sa COL, I decided na yung 500K iinvest ko then yung natirang 1 Million is saving/emergency fund. Isa sa natutunan ko during the seminar, dapat bilhin mong stocks eh yung company na kayang tumagal ng more than 50 years at talagang tinatangkilik ng mga tao ang products nila tulad ng bakery, umulan umaraw bibili sayo ang mga tao basta masarap lang ang tinapay mo.

(After a month, I opened an account with COL Financial. I decided to invest 500 K and then 1 Million pesos as my emergency fund. One thing I learned during the seminar, I need to buy stocks of the companies that can last for more than 50 years and people should enjoy their products continuously like bakery. Anytime people are buying as long as your bread is delicious.)

Ayun, hinati ko sa dalawang stocks yung 500K. Bata pa lang ako madalas ko na makita sa advestisement at TV commercials yan sila at madalas din kasi bilhin ng mga tao ang products nila. in short in demand sa kahit anong edad/estado sa buhay-mayaman ka man o normal na tao.

(I divided the 500 K fund on two stocks(Jollibee and Universal Robina Corp.I already saw them on advertisement and on TV commercial since I was young and their products have been household names. Their products are very in demand, to any ages/ and status)

Last September 10,2016 was my 60th birthday and this year din ang 10th anniversary ko sa stock market, 10 years ko ng hawak yan sila at subrang happy ako that I made the right decision10 yeas ago. Plano ko na ipa transfer sa anak ko yung account dahil ayokong bitawan sila dahil naniniwala ako after 50 years bahagi pa din sila ng pamilyang Pilipino."

(On September 10,2016 was my 60th birthday and also my 10 anniversary in the Stock Market. I keep my stocks for 10 years and I'm so happy that I made the right decision 10 years ago. I'm planning to transfer my account to my child since I dont want to sell my shares because I believe that after 50 years, these companies will still be part of Filipino family)

(PS: Dummy account gamit ko for safety reason, pero yung real account ko ay member din                 dito.)

There's only 1% of Filipino population who are investing in the Stock Market today and sadly they missed a very good opportunity. My challenge to the OFWs is to take advantage on this and put you're hard-earned money that can grow exponentially and can last long.

I'm an avid fan of delayed gratification and it also shows up on my investment plan. My goal is to retire after 20-30 years and most of my stocks are for long-term. I have few for short-term but I made sure that when I gain a profit, I reinvested it for my long-term stocks...Just like Mr. Lambert Aquino, always think of something long term,What would be my life after 10 years-20 years from now?
